Professor Niels Bohr, a physicist, has fled Germany and is now in Copenhagen, having just traveled to the United States to visit with his friend, Professor Albert Einstein, who has also fled Germany and is living in Princeton, New Jersey.
In March of 1939, Professor George B. Pegram of Columbia University arranges for Professor Fermi to discuss the matter of nuclear fission with certain officers of the US Navy. Einstein sends a personal letter to President Roosevelt expressing his concern.
